Dr Dan Lephoko, Associate Researcher Fellow in the Department of Science of Religion and Missiology of the Faculty of Theology and Religion at the University of Pretoria, is an authority on the life and ministry of Nicholas Bhengu who was greatly influenced by both Evangelical and Pentecostal theologies.

about me

Dr Dan S.B. Lephoko holds a Baccalaureus luris (Legal) degree from the University of South Africa (UNISA). He also holds MPhil (Applied Theology) and MA (Theology), both with distinction, and obtained his PhD (Theology) in 2010 at 80 years of age, all three degrees being from the University of Pretoria.He has also completed a Management Advanced Programme from Wits Business School and a Senior Management Development Programme from the University of Pretoria, Graduate School of Management – now Gordon Institute of Business Science. Dr Dan Received leadership training from leadership Dynamics in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

Dr Dan has served as a credentialed pastor with the Assemblies of God. He also served on the General Executive of the Assemblies of God and as well as on the Assemblies of God Back to God Executive. He initiated N.B.H. Bhengu’s Theological College (now Seminary). He has also served as the National Director at Life Ministry (Campus Crusade for Christ International), he is former chairperson of the Evangelical Fellowship of South Africa, former deputy chairperson of South African National Association for Specialised Education. In the 1970s he established the Christian Agency for Bursaries to assist black students enroll at universities, the Christian Writers’ Society.

He serves as an Associate Researcher in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Pretoria. Dr Dan is an Executive member of the Advisory Board of the Centre for Faith and Community at the University of Pretoria. He has also authored and co-authored with three professors at UNISA, a book on Cultural Sensitivity for Managers, a member of a special committee on Partnership in Theological Education (UNISA). Dr Dan is a member of the Editorial Board of African Journal of Pentecostal Studies (AJOPS). He recently published a scholarly book on Nicholas Bhengu’s lasting legacy-the World’s Best Black Soul Crusader with AOSIS at 88 years of age.

Dr Dan’s research work on Nicholus Bhengu is archived at the University of Pretoria. He is currently negotiating with the Faculty of Theology and Religion at the same University for inclusion of Pentecostal Studies and the establishment of a Bhengu Chair at the University of Pretoria. He is regarded as Bhengu Scholar in the International Academic fraternity. Dr Dan is the founder and Executive Director of both Leadership Focus and Children On the Move, which provides after-school care to 300 orphans and vulnerable children in Atteridgeville, Pretoria. Dr Dan is a professional specialist of more than 45 years’ experience in Teaching, Training and Development of Human Capital.
